I'd never seen or heard of these until I saw a one legged guy scoot past with one a few minutes ago:

Until not that many years ago, hose attachments specifically for Supataps were available. They had a pair of fold up thingys that attached over the 'wings' of the tap giving a pretty secure fitting. :okay:

You've just released a memory from my childhood that I didn't know I had. Yes, I remember those hose attachments.

Did they have a rotating joint in them though, the problem with an ordinary connector is that the tap wrings the hose into a twist when you turn it on/off.

These memories are from before the age of 10. I don't think I was concerned with such matters. Although I can see it would be important for adults.

Mallorca and Majorca are the same place.

I've never given the matter much thought. I've never considered going there (obviously - as I would soon have found out that they were one place).

In fact the only thing I know about them/it is the John Cooper Clarke poem "Majorca": When I came to I was gagged and bound for Majorca.

Also - it's in the Mediterranean. It's the Canary Islands that are in the Atlantic. I was pretty vague on this point too.

I always used to think of drunken Brits on cheap holidays there, which put me off ever going. I have recently watched quite a few cycling videos shot on the island though and the rural parts of it look fantastic for cycling.

A mate used to live on Tenerife and for a while back then I was getting the Canaries mixed up with the Balearics!

With John Cooper Clarke as my one and only source of info I thought the same:

The Double Diamond flowed like sick
Mother's Pride, tortilla and chips
Pneumatic drills when you try to kip
...in Majorca
A stomach infection put me in the shade
Must have been something in the lemonade
But by the balls of Franco i paid
Had to pawn my bucket and spade
Next year I'll take the international brigade
...to Majorca

The cheapest room prices have gone up from about £70 a night to £100 in just two years. They're going to price themselves out of the market.

I had a 7 day cycling holiday there. A wonderful week. We only did, say, 40 miles per day.... fabulous time.

the better resorts are worth it

One year I was in a nice resort "up North" and went on a coach trip to Palma and a bit of time at the zoo
turned out that the zoo was in Palma Nova of Magalluf or something
What a dump!

and I spent on holiday in a small isolated place and the place was lovely - probably because the coaches couldn't get there!
