Some guy on Twitter says he's just seen Thelma & Louise. I didn't even know they're still alive.

Well we only saw the car fly off the cliff.
The film lets you decide whether they died.
It’s possible that they both sustained minor grazing injuries, I’ve seen plenty of action movies where the lead actors survive worse. 😀

The spellchecker for forum posts did not like 'singlespeed' and stuck a wavy red line under the word every time that I used it. I just discovered that I can highlight any word that the checker underlines, right click on it, then click 'Add to dictionary'. Bingo - it now accepts 'singlespeed' and a few other words that I think it should know about.

Try not to mis-spell any words you add as it's a devil of a job to find where they are stored and delete the error, even if you didn't mean to add the wrong spelling

Good point. My immediate reaction was that you could just add the correct spelling, but then the penny dropped - the spellchecker would no longer complain about the incorrect spelling!

Where ARE the words stored? And - are they in a text format that can be easily edited?

I can't remember now if I discovered the secret dictionary or just had to put up with it

Reminds me of another triumph whereby we (a major UK telco) had launched a voice activated voicemail and call management platform. First time you left a message it would ask for your name, then the message proper. Henceforth it would "announce" you and use the spoken name of whoevever had left the message for various other purposes. However I had left a message for a colleague during the "what's your name" bit, so henceforth he, and worse, everyone else, would get "you have a message from 'hello mike, I'll be late for our meeting, but should be there by such and such, plus various points to discuss" and there was no way to fix it!

That depends on which browser and which platform.

For Chrome on Windows, you can get at it from the three dots => settings => Languages => Customise Spell Check. From where you can add or remove custom words. Chrome on Android doesn't have that choice, nor I believe on Mac.

And other browsers will be somewhere else again.

Excellent - thanks.

It seems that at some point in the past I had already discovered how to add words because there are 4 troublesome local place names in there, as well as the 2 fake test words that I added today.

That I already had 5 new chains in my spares box and that I didn’t need to buy 5 more. Oh well now have enough for next four years for recumbent.
I didn't buy that many, but I did buy some spares recently that became spare spares when I opened the drawer that I was going to put them in and discovered spares that I had bought (and forgotten about) a year earlier!

My laptop kyboard (<-- xampl <--!!) has been playing up so I hav... (aargh, it is getting wors on the 'e' key!! :cursing:) and I have been relying on the spellchecker to highlight missing (or extra) 'e's!

PS Fingers crossed, but I think that I might have just fixed it! I carefully levered the keycap off the 'e' key and discovered that there was a lot of gunk under it, which I have now cleaned out. Oops, no, there was one missing 'e' there, and another, but it is definitely a lot better than it was. I will just have to make sure that I type more firmly, which seems to work.

I will clean under other keys as and when necessary, but obviously in English the 'e' gets used more than any other, which is probably why that one developed problems first.

Can you remap it to a key that you never use? Failing that get some canned air. That usually works.
