Right only a slight adjustment needed here folks new cables put in by LBS so everything fine apart from the usual cable stretch. I have a triple at the front, so although it is changing, it is not so slick and is sometimes missing the middle ring and changing from big to granny ring and missing middle ring. cables just need a slight tightening in tension I would say. Remind me what direction again to turn the barrel adjuster and what chain ring I should be in while doing this....memory like a sieve ! I could nip it into LBS I know, but want to use the bike ASAP !

Different advice from different places, but assuming mech is positioned correctly (parallel to rings viewed from top, and outer cage clears large ring by 2mm viewed from side), then the one that makes most sense to me is to adjust cable tension by centering mech above middle ring viewed from top when you are on that, and in case it is needed adjust L limit screw for cage inside plate to be 1mm from chain when you are on small front large back, and similarly adjust H limit screw for cage outside plate to be 1mm from chain when you are on large front small back. Job done.

Anticlockwise/clockwise on barrel adjuster to increase/decrease cable tension, which would move mech outboard/inboard respectively.

I'd just stick it on the small ring, loosen the nut holding the cable, pull the cable tight with pliers and tighten the nut again. No need to mess with limit screws. Or anti clockwise on the barrel adjuster.
