I've started using the Gener8 browser, which has a very effective built in Ad Blocker. It also allows you to benefit from trackers. No complaints with it so far.

It'll do all the banner ads and that rubbish but won't touch "sponsored" crap in marketplace and seems to work sporadically on ads appearing in my status anxiety feed.

I use a facebook container plugin for Firefox, it isolates all Facebook properties and stops it tracking. Sadly it also stops the website working, but then I haven't used facebook for over a decade other than the occaisional accidental click through on a link.

F@!* me! How come I was today years old before I discovered that? It's miraculous.

...but the WPS led on my router started flashing when I installed it, and doesn't stop if I uninstall it.

Yeah, I think that's definitely the way forward.. however as nasty as it is I'm crap at staying in touch with people so anything that facilitates that has tremendous value.

I am happy with forum, email, SMS and telephone calls.

If I were ever to start a small pension-booster business I would look into facebook, Twitter etc., but for personal use, no.

That's fair. I got into FB near its beginning so have a lot of people on there from Uni / before who I'd not usually keep in touch with but it's nice to drop them a message / non-committal positive wall post occasionally.

A mate of mine likes it for advertising his business; however I find it provides pretty much the absolute dregs of humanity, whom I'm less inclined to open a dialogue with..
