Adblocker

Can anyone reccomend an adblocker. Preferrably a free one. But I will pay if I have to.

I appear to be getting a surge of ads at the moment.

I use this personally and also at work on clients' machines (at the behest of someone who knows a lot more about it than I do). It nails everything except FB ads and I'm very happy with it. So much so that I might actually donate to the cause as it makes the internet experience bearable for me; I've used it for years and genuinely don't think I could cope with all the nasty flashing, distracting, manipulative shite that now comes as standard on every page.

Another vote for ublock origins
Started using it on an old laptop becasue the ads just made it unusable - this gave it an extra few years of life

Once I got a new laptop I stopped using it but the ads were SOOOOO annoying and slowed it done so much that I went back to it

I'm pretty brutal, I use uBlock Origin as well as no-script, the latter blocks all Javascript from running on the site unless you explicitly give permission. Also worth considering the Cookie Auto-Delete plugin too.

Finally if using Chrome switch to a better browser - Google are changing the way plugins works so adblockers won't work (see Manifest V3 changes), I personally use Firefox, but Brave is another option and has built in adblocking capabilities IIRC.

Not for much longer. Google are changing the way plugins work so that Adblockers don't work as effectively, no conflict of interest of course.
