I wouldn't worry too much about relocating the controls. I'd relocate the left grip as you don't often really need back brake or front shifter - the two brakes rule isn't used in all countries. But more vexing is that they don't know of a temporary attachment either

You are not supposed to like your own post, even if it is the long way round.

There are a couple of ways of creating a customised bar. Some custom bike-makers can make bars, usually out of lightweight steel.
Butterfly style bars seem the most adaptable for reach.
You could try adapting an existing bar with moulding such as sugru.

Where are you?
There may well be a CC member nearby with a spare bike, a selection of bits and a Bodging Stick to get it all together.

Hello,
I don't own a bike but have started hiring one each week at my local park. I love it but I have slight problem! My right arm is shorter than my left (due to surgery on my shoulder as a kid) and it aches like mad because of stretching to reach the handle bars. There aren't any other types of bikes for hire unfortunately, so I was wondering if there's anything I could buy to make the handles more reachable? I wondered about buying a pair of bar ends as they look like they might do the trick? I would welcome your advice. TIA

I've seen people with arm/hand/shoulder issues riding with a bar-end sticking-out one end of the bars, angled to give comfortable holding.
