Interested in getting a video camera to record my rides. Slightly self-indulgent for weekend ride/sportives, doubling up as a safety cam when I commute by bike once a month or so.

Any recommendations? Not arsed about the latest, greatest camera, unless it's a goldilocks option. Happy with 4k filming, good stabilisation, and mounting options for helmet, chest and garmin mount.

I've got a GoPro Hero 9, not the latest model but it's good for more than just filming rides. I've recorded some cracking night time-lapse of Northern Lights etc.
Only issue for use on bike is battery life. I get around 1hr 30mins per battery so I carry a spare which gives 3hrs(obvs) so OK for shorter rides but an all dayer need a battery pack.

I'll add I have my camera mounted on bike. Fit and forget job then. Definitely wouldn't have on head as aside from feel a bit odd it looks terrible!

I have a Cycliq Fly 12 Sport. I got it after following this thread

Good battery life, good image quality. The widows app is not great but OK.

I use it largely as you intend ... I go through footage post ride and pull out a few nice stills. It's also insurance in case of an incident.

I would absolutely not mount it on a helmet. But then nor would I do so with any camera.

Aside from that, it has it's own garmin-esque mount (1/8 turn not 1/4) but can integrate with a Garmin-style out front, or can mount under handlebars. Also has adapters for GoPro style.
