I pass a few cyclists regularly - two on the way in to work, a different two on the way home. I still smile in their direction, they have never acknowledged, now I think they just avert their gaze from the mad grinning woman.
However, this week there is a new cyclist I passed on the way in to work. I smiled yesterday and he waved. So this morning when we passed one another, I made sure to raise my hand (safely!) and shout 'Morning!' across the road at him.
I don't often overtake people, on the rare occasions I do I'm usually thinking too hard about zooming past to get back in before the next car comes by. People overtaking me is infrequent, there is one who does if I am a bit late leaving for work, he always says 'Good morning' but none of the others have ever said anything.
I would offer roadside assistance, never had the need to as yet. I would do it simply because I'd like to think that someone might return the favour if I needed help.
