@Accy cyclist , could I tempt you to go downmarket with a silver cased pocket watch instead?

It might be quite a talking point!

Surely nicer than a similar priced stainless steel Rolex? For the same price as a 'boring':tired: Rolex you can have a classy, solid 18 carat gold piece of bling!:becool:

'Please note that this bracelet is not easily resized, and will best fit a wrist with circumference between 17 and 19cm'

My size too, but I'm 17.5 cms, so it might be slightly loose. I like things to fit snugly.

i asked my goldsmith/jeweler friend about this watch today. He looked at the advert and saw it has a 'Plexiglass' crystal. That might sound expensive, but it's a posh way of saying plastic, he told me. He also said the 'not too popular now' 35mm diameter face and the fact it's a 1960's mechanical, not automatic movement would put off potential future buyers of the watch. I asked him if it was worth buying or not. He said that if I were to buy it for the £5,207 asking price, it'd be worth about £1,500 on arrival and that's taking the 18 carat solid gold into account! So he's probably saved me £3,700, as it's definitely not a watch that'd hold the price you'd be paying for it!

Two RW watches here that've caught my eye. Both look quite old, looking at their boxes. Yes, they wouldn't hold their price, but life isn't all about how much you pay for it, then how much can you sell it for. I've found the RW watch I bought 6 months ago very nice and it gets compliments often. You know I like bling and that bottom one certainly is blingy! :okay: I've sent the seller a message asking if he'd/she'd accept £650 for it. The seller says on their page that they hope to reply to questions etc within 48 hours, so lets see if/when they reply what they say.🤔

This vintage Waltham pocket watch is for sale in near to me Clitheroe. It's 18 carat, with the chain being 9 carat. I think I'll have a look at it tomorrow and maybe ask if they'll knock a bit off the price? 🤔

The good thing about buying from this local jeweler is that if anything goes wrong with the watch they'll fix it and not say it's not their responsibility as online sellers might do and if they do accept liability you have to post it back and wait for them to repair the thing, which can take ages.

After a few days of should I or maybe not, I decided that I should! The combined weight of both watch and chain is approximately 50 grams. As you can see, the watch is much smaller than a 'normal' pocket watch which us usually around the 45 cms diameter mark, with this one being 32 cms, or 40 cms if you include the crown. The watch is in very good condition, without any marks or scratches. The box obviously won't be the original box, it's just one they let me have which was used for display purposes. I asked the jewelers if they'd knock anything off the price, At first they said they couldn't, as they were selling it for a long time customer. Then today (two days later) I asked again and they said they'd knock £150 off. They must've asked that long term customer and he/she said knock yes, £150 off, as it's been for sale for a few months now.

Do you really mean 32cm?!

Quite nice that. Not my thing but I can appreciate it.

I wanted it more as a piece of jewelry than just a watch. The insides are just as nice, if not nicer than the outside. It keeps perfect time as well. They wound it up in the shop at about 4.45 yesterday. When I checked it today at 2pm it was showing 2pm.

I told the owner of the shop about the IWC pocket watch I bought a few weeks ago. He took his wrist watch off to show me what was an IWC one. At first I thought he said it was worth 13 hundred pounds. He said no, it's 13 thousand! The watch was nice, but it was just a stainless steel case with a leather strap. To me that's a hell of a lot of money for a watch that doesn't have a hint of gold.

Something that size... Isn't that a *ladies* fob watch?

No, it's a pendant watch, for either male or female.

Even if it is/was classed as a ladies watch, i'm not bothered at all! I've stated before that I like, sometimes prefer ladies watches. I've looked at a watch online and thought about buying it only to see it's a ladies one.

On about fakes, today is the 40th and last day those scoundrels who sold my neighbour that crap Rolex 'clone' had to again contest the transaction. According to my neighbour's bank, after 40 days the dispute will be officially settled favouring the buyer, not the seller! I sent her a message asking if Lloyds (her bank) had been in contact on this last day for the seller to contest it. She replied saying No, Lloyds haven't been in touch again, so I think it's safe to say the my neighbour won the dispute! :okay: If I was her I'd see this as a lesson in do not buy fakes, clones or whatever they call them, but something tells me she's daft enough to fall for these scams again. Only the other day she sent me a link to a supposed top quality Cartier ladies watch, which if genuine would be around £4,500, but this er 'top quality' thingy is 300 quid. I've advised her not to fall for this again, but something tells me she's daft enough to buy this 'Cartier' watch! Ah well, if she does then this time she's on her own. If it happens again I'm not getting involved. She'll have to dig herself out of the hole the next time she falls for such a scam!

1,010,572 is quite a precise estimate!

I have only ever purchased higher end watches though very reputable sellers or where there has been protection in place, such as an escrow service, to give ti for authenticity to be carried out before payment is released.

'Of all the luxury watches sent to Watchfinder & Co. over the last year, at least half of those identified as fake or containing fake parts were Rolex'.

I wonder what Watchfinder do when they find the sent to them watch is fake? I suppose they ask the seller to send their watch, then they look it over and if it's ok they buy it off the seller. If it's dodgy they return the watch, stating why they won't/can't buy it. Surely they don't just buy watches without seeing them in the flesh first. Rolex must be the most copied, cloned, faked whatever watch in the whole world! Even with its papers, how would you know it doesn't have any fake parts? The seller would have to take the watch to bits and check every single part. 🤔
