And that is why I change my after chain every ride. At least I think that's what you were touching on.

I think you are mad (in a funny way) to actually take a chain off after every ride, must cost you a fortune in linkers even if you recycle them. Fair enough if you are mudplugging and need a deep clean, but for regular road riding you'd be better to use white lightning and the usual 500k chainwash. Your chain will thank you!

My down tube shifters don't skip a beat - very easy to maintain Shimano 105, Deore LX 8sp and Deore LX triple front mech. Last time I adjusted them was when I was doing my annual cable change. In comparison my Veloce 10sp needs fettling every 3rd ride...

So how does the new sram 22 work then??? I mean all 22 gears are available according to their blurb and no mention of cross chain issues??

So why do you have to avoid big/big - sml/sml on shimano gearing but not the new sram 22

It does not do it consistently or reliably, its finicky to set up and is called the YAW derailleur, it also existed on 10 speed red.. Its SRAM trying to talk up the product to suggest its as competent and slick as electronic groupsets.

I have Red22 on one of my bikes.

But surely there would still be cross chaining tho big/big, sml/sml

I wsa trying to be funny to the post with the impossible to understand tech. I've not changed mine in a year. Little stretch, just cleaned and oiled. Chainsaw bar oil. I shall now away the comments of disgust.
