OMFG, they are so delicous. If you are ever up in Northumberland, the whole coastline is a razorclam fest. All you need is low tide and a bottle of Saxa table salt.

An old metal sign, about a yard long, on a wall by Cogenhoe Mill.
Not my photo. It just popped up on Facebook of children in an 80s sink estate playing with mattresses.

It's a "Cross of Honour" for mothers of large families, with an invitation to a celebration to honour the recipient on the 13th of August 1939. I've blanked out the symbol, as it's illegal here; technically presenting a piece of historical evidence is exempt, but still...
The letter makes it clear that only a limited number of mothers get this each year, and "Frau ! " is the 52nd in her district to get a reservation.
Somehow holding this made the horror if it all more real: this is a normal letter sent out by the local government. The place names are places I know well, and they're full of pleasant, tolerant people, yet this place, and in fact this whole nation of perfectly sensible people once went collectively insane.
Despite that will a museum take it? They are rare things these days especially with the accompanying letter.
