I like the fact it says "Carways" and "Airways" on it and has a pic of a car and a plane. Possibly there was some kind of connection with the local airport. Maybe the hotel acted as a check in point for Cardiff airport (which used to actually be in Cardiff - not the other side of Barry https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Pengam_Moors).

Yes, at the time Cardiff Airport was in Splott (with regular flights to and from France), and the hotels catered for the sort of well heeled clientele who would be flying internationally. I don't think there was any direct connection with the airport, though.
