you can always bring it around in the week for another set of eyes/ears if you want some assistance tracking it down. I'm about quite a bit this week because my parents are away from home!
Just sent you a DM

Berties

Fast and careful!
i had the same creek on turning of the pedals ,no movement any where came down to grit in the head set bearing, emitting the sound whilst putting power through the pedals,at least the bike had a thorough check at my lbs

Hi guys

Finally managed to get my bike to my (excellent) LBS today. Bit of an eye opener! Sometimes I feel so ignorant about bikes... My LBS are fantastic and never treat you like a muppet at all. They will never rip you off either and do their best to keep costs down where they can. But I still feel like a muppet when I go in there with whatever my bike's latest ailment is - normally something I haven't even noticed!!

Anyway, turns out THE CLICKING (TM) could be:
  • From the headset - which was riding up for some reason
  • NOT from the BB which they think is fine
  • Possibly from pedals
  • My tri bars I use for TTs are a waste of space - they have been pinching the cables and are not helping me get low anyway
I also got measured for a bike fit (kind of) which I have been meaning to do for a while. What I have got from that so far:

  • The frame is exactly right for me (hurrah!)
  • I need pedal washers (? Can't remember the name exactly) putting on the bike as my shoes have been rubbing against the cranks due to my duck-like feet
  • They have lowered the bars quite a lot
  • I need a long stem
  • I probably will need a new saddle
  • I definitely need new shoes (see pic attached - oh the shame! I'm saving money ATM but really these are dead, I almost had to stop the mechanic throwing them in the bin!)
  • I will need a new crankset. This is the big thing. The cranks are 2cm too long for me, causing quite a few issues as a result and also might be another factor in THE CLICKING. Plus I did a not brilliant (even by my low standards) TT on Weds and a mate remarked on how I am grinding it way too much at a v slow cadence and need to spin more, having the right size cranks will be a start!
Also, one nice thing that has come out of this is that I got to meet @SatNavSaysStraightOn and Mr SNSSO who are super nice people  and live about 1.5 miles from me!

Latest progress... If anyone's interested! Turns out I need an S2 saddle. Had a sit on one and it felt a lot better. Bit concerned my new position will be too low and hard on my back, but we'll see... Better get working on the core! Altogether will be new shoes, cleats, BB, crankset & saddle...

I'm convinced the chain needs replacing, sometimes the chain does not sit well on the crank set. It happened to me, soon you will get chain slip.

I can exclusively report that THE CLICKING is no more! Fairly sure it was be BB30. Replaced with threaded insert and Shimano crankset. Also makes quite a difference having a nice saddle and the right length cranks - hard to explain but now I feel like I am sitting in the right place!

Big Kudos to my LBS Bike Logic in Helsby. You won't find a friendlier and fairer bunch.
