It's a bit more complicated than that...
I love A-roads.
A23, A38, A61, A272
Random numbers just don't hack it. Two of those roads are in the South; one goes from South-West to Midlands; the fourth goes from Midlands northwards.

Either you're a stupidly long-distance rider (or driver) or you're taking the mickey.

I don't even like driving the van down the A3. The lanes, outbound from Robin Hood RA, are stupidly narrow and everybody speeds. As a cyclist though, it's probably cheaper than Dignitas.

He said he loves the A272. Of course he's taking the mickey.

I agree with @slowmotion, the stretch between the Robin Hood RAB and Tolworth is awful, narrow lanes, fast traffic and high fences, the flyover by the double decker golf driving range would be suicide on a bike.

Once past Tolworth the road opens out a bit with a nice big hard shoulder, the stretch from Surbiton, Esher and Cobham would make a good TT, as long as you can negotiate the slip roads!

I didn't realise this was super-serious

In the past I've ridden pretty much all of the A23. The A38 I included as a joke. The A61 was a mistake (intended to put A660). The A272 I've ridden various bits of years ago.

My favourite road begins with a 'U' rather than an 'A'.
