-7 C in my greenhouse last night and part of the River Dee was frozen over when I went to get a paper this morning.

I was merely checking up on the condition of my tenants. Having read about how it's all done in the Daily Mail, I am now renting the greenhouse out to some Romanian gypsies for £3,000 a week which is paid by the council.

More seriously, the highest temperature today has been -4 C.

Cor, I haven't heard the word ganzie for years - we used to use it at home (Dad's family are from Co. Durham).

Anyway, yes, even in tropical Devon it was bleedin' freezing.

The correct term is a "cool greenhouse" but in very cold weather it means a "****ing cold one."
