You still get rag and bone men around here occasionally - the North-East must be one of the few places they still exist (in England, at least...)

We had one in Smethwick too. He came around in his flat bed truck shouting for old iron on a Monday, IIRC.

I don't mind whistling.

I tihnk this is because I had a mate who used to do drum solos with pencils AT EVERY BLOODY OPPORTUNITY. Whistling seems quite pleasant after that.
