Never until a couple of years ago.
When Vanessa Redgrave's daughter, Natasha, died after a very minor bump on her head whilst skiing I thought, "Mmmm. Perhaps I should"
All the time now.

I voted half the time. About right.

- when at an event where the organisers ask for them to be worn - always. (I've chosen to go, so follow the organisers' request.)

If they ever beome compulsory I'll completely stop using one. In the meantime I'm firmly in favour of it staying a personal choice, and of it being my prersonal choice whether to give anyone an earful if they pass an adverse comment about my helmet wearing choice at the time.

So you'll wear one if some student who organises a sportive asks you to, but not if laws oblige you to?

I'm sure your radical, law-breaking ways will change pretty sharpish once you're hit with the first £60 fine!

I previously said "always in the UK". Ten days ago or so, in heavy London traffic on a hot, hot day, I took the wretched thing off. It felt blooming marvelous^_^

I might be wavering.

If I'm trail riding then yea but if I'm just on the flat gravel cycle way near mine I don't bother. It's flat and a nice ride so I think a helmet isn't needed. On trails I hammer down them so it's worth using a helmet

Never owned one until I went clipless on the road bike and was thankful i was wearing one the amount of times I fell off.
Never used to wear it when I was on the MTB until I hit a kerb and went over the handle bars landing on my head, it wasn't until the cycle home I realized I couldn't remember cycling the rest of the way into work (5 miles) in rush hour traffic. The thought of me weaving in and out of heavy with concision was enough to scare me into wearing one 99% of the time.

All the time. I used to mountain bike and I went over my handlebars and smashed my head into a rock. Lucky I was wearing my helmet, potentially saved my life.

I used to on my roadie. I don't on the tandem, neither does my stoker.
The reason for not wearing now is simply my perception of potential damage being caused to my, (and her!) head. I believe that there is much less likelihood of damage now, than when I was chasing around the lanes on my racer.
I have no desire for it to be compulsory, and feel that this should always remain a persons choice - akin to eating, exercise, and smoking/drinking.....

I always wear one even on short rides, I suppose I'm in stuck in that situation whereby I've been wearing one for so long now that sods law says that the day I decide I don't want it will be the day that I need it!

Always, wear a buff scull cap underneath to stop movement over the hair and stop sweat spots, just used to it now
