It occurred to me that endurance cycling could be done slightly differently.
In the audax format, you have a set distance to cover within a set number of hours. It's up to you how to use the time given, you can either cycle fast and rest more, cycle slow and rest less, or for some people indeed, cycle fast and rest little and finish early.
But what if it doesn't matter how far you've cycled? Instead you have to cycle for a certain number of hours and there's a limit on how long you can stop for. Say, the goal is to cycle for 24 hours and you fail if you stop for more than 2 hours overall. But the distance doesn't matter.
Since the distance doesn't matter, you don't need a fast bike. Instead more comfortable bikes would be preferred.
