I am wanting to run a sealed system as there are a lot of country lanes in my area meaning potholes, mud and water. I arrived at the idea of buying some PTFE liner and some rubber grub seals/boots and some lined caps and nosed ferrules to make the system as sealed as I can possibly get.

My question is; roughly, how much cable travel is there when changing from a 34t front to a 50t, and also a through the range of a12-30t 10 speed cassette? What I'm saying is, I know that the changes are done via tension, less or more depending on a higher or lower gear but, from a fixed point on the cable, how much does the cable tighten and take up slack and how much is actually pulled (in a forward or backward motion), resulting in travel?

I understand that this question may not have a definitive answer, if it can be answered at all, but any thoughts would be appreciated, at the very least, interesting.

TIA

Measure the height from the top of the derailleur body to the cable clamp at the top and bottom of the range? That's normally a straight line and should give you some idea, I should think

You might want to look at Gore cables, as the inner sleeve runs the whole way along the system.

To be frank, it's not really needed if you clean the bike after, and a regularly used bike will need cables changing every so often.

It'd be easy to measure it provided you have bosses on the downtube for the exposed cable run.
Just select the 50 then wrap a bit of electrical tape around the exposed bit of cable at the frame boss, change to the little ring and measure how far the tape is away now. Likewise with the rear, select the big cog tape and then change down to the little cog and measure'

PS I'd just fit stainless cables and grease the ends of the sealed runs regularly.

I would, Fossy, but I'm a skinflint

I was planning on doing what you said, I was just hoping that someone had already done this and could give me their results  Wish this bluddy rain would stop.

There should be no slack in the cable if it is properly adjusted.

Measuring this yourself is far easier than asking on this forum, imo, and will provide an accurate, assured answer. Others' results will offer neither. That is unless you were actually looking for posters to offer oblique advice on why not to do something, or why to do something different.

On the contrary, the question I asked was the question I wanted answering, hence, I asked the question.

None of it works!

Any derailleur system has naked cable at the lever and shifter ends

These will corrode and there is nothing you can do about it
