is that why groupsets always seem to have 50% off?
I don't follow, the manufacturers of group sets don't typically build bikes

Road bike ones may, not so sure about those for flat bars as linked in the OP, I doubt an individual could easily source genuine parts, frame, fork etc new and build the same bike for £300 odd.

My Genesis build cost more too despite shopping around for all the parts. I did probably buy some upgraded ones however like saddle

it must be to do with competition at a specific price point, so , say, Trex, Speccy, Giant, Cannondale etc need to hit £999 for a model a year later but make an allowance for inflation, so reduce spec and hope no one notices
I expect the global economy and exchange rates are a bigger influencer than uk inflation levels

For example, Raleigh have some Halfords 'exclusives' but they aren't Raleigh's at all, I can't believe consumers are so tricked.
I'm by no means a fanboy of any brand, in fact I actually like Raleigh but also find it hard to be happy with their offerings these days given that there seems to be no real substance behind any of their offerings, especially when I realised they were basically letting anyone build a bike and use their name under license as mentioned above.

Interested to hear more about this. When you say "they aren't Raleighs" or "they're built under licence", what do you actually mean?

For example, the Raleigh Edale (mens/womens) and Loxley (mens/womens) bicycles do not share the same frame number format as other Raleigh's.

Now, you'd like to think that when Raleigh make a bike they would use this format as they do on their other modern bicycles but these 'exclusives' seem to be an exception. I'm sure their name is also used by companies other than Halfords too, but to me, it's not a Raleigh in the slightest.

Sure, they outsourced to Taiwan but they are still Raleigh bikes when they are built in a Raleigh factory, and as a bonus point, appear on the Raleigh website.

If it is built elsewhere, by a different plant and designed by different designers but dressed with Raleigh branding it is not truly a Raleigh, at least in my eyes.

Raleigh don't seem to want to reply to me when I emailed them for confirmation of this, but in the long term I would like to find out more myself, as I essentially only bought a bike from Halfords thinking it was a Raleigh and of some standard (silly me).

I could be wrong, and there could be a reason for this but until Raleigh themselves reply to me I won't go against my gut instinct
