A good bike lock?

I have around £60 to spend and I'm looking for a good lock to use for my bike, I've found some D or U locks (forgot what they're called) but some are expenisive but I saw one for £5 in Sports Direct. Could anyone direct me in the right way for a good lock to prevent my bike from being stolen, thanks.

One of these

Or these

You'll need all your £60 - I'd also get one of these for the other wheel

Also, get it marked by the police and also add to your home insurance for away from home cover

And be careful where you leave it

Something for a fiver from Sportsdirect will protect it for 20 seconds if it doesn't break the first time you use it! D locks only, cables as main protection are rubbish (I learnt this the hard way)

Having owned both cycles and motorcycles I've always found locks a bit of an issue, the ones that might protect your pride and joy adequately might not necessarily be light enough to carry around.

I know it doesn't answer your question but I'd give more thought to where you might be leaving your bike, if you have no choice then consideration also has to be given to security of wheels and seat etc, if all you want is something to lock it to a lamp post while you pop in a shop or answer a call of nature whilst on a ride then the cable type with combination might suffice, if its for more long term security whilst at work etc I'd look again.

I cycle to work every day and luckily have a reasonably secure cycle shed, I. Do however use a heavy duty cable type lock which gets left at work.

Generally locks are for keeping honest people out!

Hope you get sorted

Hi everyone,
I had the following problem and I don't now how to solve it, I need help!
I tried to open my ulock, but it was very hard and then.. the key broke and now the half of the key is inside the locker, with my bike there, on the street, under the rain. Have anyone had a problem such this one? Any piece of advice? I want to recover my bike, thank you in advance.

How much of the key is exposed? how thick is the key? Any link to the exact bike lock you have?

If required you can inform the police and they will help you free it, but hopefully we can help

Ive just been looking at this .... http://www.wiggle.co.uk/knog-milkman-retractable-1m-cable-lock/

The road bike doesn't normally leave my bottom but now and then it would be nice to nip into the shop on the way home for a pint of milk . Small enough to put in your pocket .
I've got one of those, I use it for locking the Brompton to the luggage rack while on the train. Does the job, but I am sure a well prepared thief would easily get through, much like any lock.

Sure its not the best lock but it stops someone just walking off with the bike . Seeing as you have one , is it small and light enough to fit in the back pocket of a cycling top ? Or do you think it would be a bit clumsy ?

I have one of those as well. It is only used when I will be leaving the bike outside to grab a coffee, or answer the call of nature.
Stops the opportunistic type from walking off with my bike, but it won't stop a scumbag with basic cutters
