I did the planned deflation to test the mini morph today

it works very well, silly small and dinky but it does the job, very well designed and I got to 100psi without any problems at all, granted limited returns by then but person felt he could have kept going until something burst

so all good, happy here

Thanks for the update Tynan.
Hope you enjoyed the beer too!

i use a halfords jobbie thats a bit like the topeak mini morrph, but a little bigger i think:-

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...1576_crumb_33980-31270_parentcategoryrn_31576

got it because it was 10 quid cheaper than my LBS did the mini morph, and i wanted one that day.. it does seem to get up to well enough pressure for my 28mm slicks, and pretty easily too. although it doesnt have a guage..

Cyclaire for me, never had a problem with it

Presta or Schraeder valves though, Karl ?

I suspect it'd be fine on Schraeders, but the thin Presta valves and the high pressures involved seemed to defeat mine (Cyclaire Plus).

I bought one last night on my way home for £19.99 on the back of this post. Wanted a decent pump to take out with me on the road but didn't want to buy a Track Pump for home at the same time, either.

And I was fed up with taking 80 pumps to only half-fill my tyre and breaking 1 valve in 3 with my only mini-jobbie.

Got the pressure up in about 30 easy strokes on all my tyres. Pleased with it's first performance.

If it doesn't last the distance, I'll just take it back. I expect at least a year's use out of it (depending on frequency of use).

Only thing is, I can't work out whether the "tube" is meant to retract into the pump or just stay hanging out!

Halfords had some £10.00 Track Pumps but they looked very flimsy.

thats exactly the thought i had about it lasting!- the "bike specialist" recommended that one to me, and i replied "if it aint good enough its coming back"

the tube does retract into it, it can even be used like a mini pump, with it retracted, but whats the point in that???

If it's like the Road Morph, there's some extra hose which can be pushed into the head (couple of inches or so?) Once retracted, the head should be more or less level with the bottom of the handle.

Incidentally, if anyone with a good track pump is looking in, my Lidl one has packed up (leaks at 80psi, frustratingly 15psi lower than the sweet spot for my Conti Ultragators, and considerably short of the 110/120 of the GP4000) - I'd be interested in recommendations.

Looking to spend Rennkompressor type money, so £35ish, although something better and cheaper could be a possibility (if such a thing is possible  )

I've got one of those Pocket Rocket efforts.

Realistically, who hand-pumps to (say) over 80psi? Above that, there's little extra psi gain for the effort you put in, right?

Me. It's a piece of whatsit with the Road Morph, seriously. 120 psi - EASY.

I have a Renkompressor track pump in the flat which is excellent, though the 'original' head is a bit hit and miss and is forever moving on the valve and leaking the air back out until I seem to get lucky and get it to stay on. (Friend here at work also has one and he's considering sending it back as he can never pump up his tyres with it because it won't stay on).

Someone wrote into C+ about the same issue and it's in this month's letters page - and now I feel daft. Apparently you engage the locking lever BEFORE you put it onto the Presta valve (which is the opposite of the way I've used pumps before where you put the head on the valve and then engage the lock to lock it on).

Tried it and it worked like a charm. Now why didn't they tell me that it worked in this way in the instructions ? ;)

Could you tell me how?

I've tried turning things, pulling things, pushing things but to no avail.

eeeeerm well, mine goes in really easy.. errrm- just push it in (while holding the tube near the fott clip bit thingy)- its defo supposed to as the twisty head seats in the gap bit thingy (i hope you understand my dodgy terms) and the notches on the side of the nozzle clip in also... (im doing it as i write). sorry i cant be more help, but it works so simply on mine that i find it errrrm difficult to explain, maybe yours is faulty?- just force it, if you break it then its faulty and take it back..

Topeak Road Morph G.

I had a topeak panini pump or something similar to that name, not a bad pump as long as you dont want to go over 40psi! I brought a Road Morph G about a month ago, have had to use it 4 times already (mine and friends bikes) and its never let me down a great pump and i can easily get my tyres to 60/70 psi withouth too much trouble, not had to pump up to the 120psi range but as others have said it should do this without trouble.

The fact that it has a hose to clip onto the valve rather than just directly fixing to the valve makes it a load easier to use and avoids damaging the valves as some have experienced.

Overall an excellent buy! I would get a replacement if it was broken or lost/stolen in an instant.
