A coronavirus chestnut has been planted and by cyclists, at that.

"I am not riding because I dont want to have an accident an need medical attention".

Its not mentioned if these riders have given up walking or driving. Which are both statistically more dangerous. Or if they stay at home and just do DIY in the house and garden. Which probably get more people into A&E in the summer than anything else.

I am not sure what would cause all these cycling accidents.

Does he usually ride so that he might come to grief and need medical attention?

Seeing as most accidents happen at home, one does wonder, when this is over and the stats are totted up, how many will end up in the column thanks to the law of unintended consequences.

Night riding has become a casualty for me, the roads in my area now being in such a terrible state. The one serious accident I had happened in the wee small hours when I hit a pothole (while riding a folder with wee small wheels).

The government have quite clearly stated that the benefits of even moderate exercise outweigh the unlikely risks of coronavirus, so long as people obey the hygiene and distancing rules. It ain't difficult. I'll be carrying on as normal with riding and weights.

"I am not riding because I dont want to have an accident an need medical attention".

I asked my lad if he was going out yesterday, he gave me the quoted reply word for word, I did point out to him he would have to stop doing anything if that was his worry.

I think he got the message but still didn't go out, he had the kids while his wife went to see her elderly mother.

It's playing the percentages isn't it? I think it's for each individual to decide if they would ride on the roads when soon there will be a serious risk if you are hurt seriously there might not be an ambulance available to help you or a bed for you if you make it to the hospital.

Personally I'm going to stick to Zwift but I don't judge anyone who still rides outdoors as long as it's not in groups.

I'm not kayaking as the RNLI are too busy picking up migrants in the channel ;)

You'll find a large number of MTB'ers are easing off. All downhill and most trail centres are shut as it's far more risky generally. TBH, we won't be cycling outside later in the week due to the idiocy of some over the weekend. If you do crash, don't go to A&E.

I just rode a 15 mile/1 hour virtual commute. Knackered now.
