Just been in the garage doing some maintenance, and decided to swap my shimano XT derailleur for the original tiagra 9-speed derailleur, bearing in mind I fiitted the XT derailleur so I could use an 11-32 cassette, I no longer use 11-32 and now have 11-28.

It seems at least on my Defy that the derailleur will work with the 11-28 cassette, I only had to lose one chainlink, and re-index the gears and it's now working well. I will celebrate by purchasing a new 11-28 SRAM PG950!

11-28 is probably the biggest it will accomodate however, but at least I'm not stuck with shimano 12-25 cassettes anymore.

I've put a 12-27 on my bike with the same mech as you, works fine.
I think that's the recommended limit but no doubt that can be stretched a little as you have proven

Same here, i have the Ultegra 12-27 rear cassette on my Defy2

If i was to go to the 11-28 i would add another link to the chain, as its going to be really tight on both bigg, although i know this is not really advised anyway its going to happen.

27 - 28 teeth is not a massive difference so i live with the 27, although its ok at that anyway.
