Trading places is good, not too much swearing, but a couple of racy bits at the beginning. Maybe watch it yourself first, may be a bit much for an 11 year old. Coming to America may be a better choice for an 11 year old.

Rat Race. It's from 2001 but it's got lots of very funny gags that should appeal to all children up to the age of 90.

War games, and +1 for Spaceballs, ours love it, and as they watched it before any of the star wars movies they can't take those seriously.

Ours have been asking about horror films, so we watched The Others with them, no ff needed, and they loved it, oldest 13, youngest 9. Not an eighties movie, but worth checking.
