(That's the hillside above breaking up and causing the slippage below!)
I rode up Calderbrook Rd again yesterday and thought I'd check that hillside for signs of further movement.

It turns out that saplings have been planted all over it, possibly to attempt to stabilise the soil with a network of roots?

Juicy saplings. The kind of thing that certain animals might like to feast upon. A herd of hungry deer for example... Oh, look - a herd of hungry deer!!

I had never seen deer in that area before but they had appeared from somewhere.

PS I was talking to @Littgull earlier today and he said that there are actually quite a few deer near Littleborough, and they are being displaced by building developments.

Hopefully the back will heal quickly and I wont be hobbling around in discomfort for much longer!
Has it/are you?

I'm going to start a thread for the upcoming Mirfield ride. I haven't chosen a date yet but it will be no earlier than the last Saturday in May, perhaps one in June, and I will wait until you are 100% for the ride.

It is finally on the mend! It’s not been a pleasant week or so but heading in the right direction and my foam roller, physio and Pilates all helping.
As a long standing problem from my illness I realise that I need to do more stretching and prevention.

Remember that can’t do the 25th May!

That's good.

Oops - I was thinking that there would be one more but that was obviously a transitory mental aberration*** - there is NOT!

Ok... a Saturday in June, preferably early June, but let's see how your back and weather forecasts are nearer the time.

I'll start the thread tomorrow.

*** I liked the phrase when I read it in The Remarkable Case of Davidson's Eyes as a teenager!

I'm unlikely to be cycling this summer.

I've had an on going bad back/hip, physio is helping, but it's a slow process, also I need to loose a lot of weigh too.
I'm sorry to hear that, Guy. I did a metric century ride with my pal Bill on Saturday and we were talking about coming over to Cheshire to ride with you again. I told him that you had back problems and was going to contact you to check on your progress.

I will leave the Cheshire ride until the autumn to give the physio (and diet!) time to work.

@Buck - how is your bad back responding to treatment?

Aargh - bad luck!

Let's leave the Mirfield ride until August and see if your back is okay by then.

Mind you, you will have lost a lot of fitness by then unless you are able to do something else in the meantime?

Whats the Mirfield ride?

It's a new route that I have planned for a forum ride this year.

I can buy a return rail ticket to Mirfield for only £3.65 (half price off-peak rail fares in West Yorkshire using my bus pass!) and it only takes just over half an hour each way. A start/finish at Mirfield station will let me ride some less familiar roads for a change, and some that I have never ridden before.

I plotted a hilly route to South Yorkshire and back - just over 80 km/50 miles in total. @Buck is local to that area and checked out the route for me before his back started playing up. It would be a shame for him not to be able to join us for the ride so that is why I am postponing posting a thread for it.

I'd like to join that one, I'm local to Mirfield too so it's an easy start! The hills south of here have some lovely roads, I'll grab a couple of photos from rides later and feel free to ask anything 👍

I'm keeping positive. Doing lots of 'safe' exercise to keep mobile and hoping to get on the turbo later this week fora short spin then build from there.
