I've just replaced the chain on my tourer. The old one (and new one) are SRAM PC850. The old chain has done 1300 miles. The cassette is a Shimano HG30 (bottom of the range) which was put on with the old chain, so has done 1300 miles. It looks fine, and I can't make the chain jump on it in any gear so it stays this time.
The 3 Shimano HG50 chains used before the SRAM ones all did about 1100 miles, and one HG50 cassette lasted for all 3.
No claims that these are typical lives or that this is a properly done test - just posting the numbers to give the OP an idea what someone else gets.
