After a series of punctures I have been thinking about tougher tyres for my Pinnacle Neon 2 hybrid. I commute 5 miles each way on mainly tarmac cycle paths/grit paths/roads/lanes and a touch of gentle/flat off road at weekends if part of a ride. Are these any good? Seem to get good reviews from cyclists like me. What else should I consider? I just want to get them on and leave them on....not a technical tinkerer! Money is an issue so must be less than £25 each, preferably including compatible inner tubes.

In my experience.Schwalbe Marathons are hard wearing and offer excellent P protection. I wouldn't use anything else - although for ultimate protection the Marathon Plus is even more robust.....at a weight, rolling resistance, comfort and price cost.

I ran Durano Plus for 2 years without a flat. put a pair of Marathons on and got one in less that a week. If you want puncture protection make sure you get the 'plus' version of whichever tyre.

One very important thing to keep in mind if you go down the marathon or marathon plus option, if you get a pu#@+ure while your out, they are very hard to get on/off. Sorry to add to the choice but there is an alternative, marathon racer which are lighter than standard marathon's, still offer high level of protection and being folding tyres not wire, very easy to get on/off.

SMP+ are heavy, poor rolling, noisy and not that puncture resistant. Instead try Specialised Armadillo All Condition or Nimbus tyres. Much lighter, much better puncture resistance and much easier to push along thus wasting less precious energy.

You can level many criticisms at marathon plus tyres but not that puncture resistant is not one of them.
