Some bad advice above. Definitely tighten the cranks as the bolts will have worked loose as everything settled. This is best done with a torque wrench so pop into the bike shop with a packet of biscuits for the mechanic and ask him to do it.
I've never ever had to tighten the cranks of any new bike I've bought and I've had a few. This is absolute rubbish.

But have you ever checked the tighness a week after buying a new bike?

I've had my newest bike ( a replacement) 3 days now.

I got it from decathlon lakeside and they seemed ok at fixing a few minor issues.

Both wheels are quick release so very easy to make sure they are tight enough, but I'd like to get a torque wrench so I can make sure most nuts and bolts are correct, as I've had handlebars slip once before!

I have indeed, and I regularly check everything for signs of something coming loose. If the cranks are torqued up correctly when the bike is built, there is no reason why they should come loose more than any other component on the bike. To suggest that they should be tightened up as a matter of course is, IMHO poor advice. Checking them for signs of coming loose, however, is different and I would encourage this.
