Hi,

FWIW a simple test is bowling along put your pedals flat and lift just off the
saddle a little. If your bum moves backwards or forwards significantly to
balance you off the seat you don't have the best seated and bar position
to put your body weight best through the pedals seated.

A completely ad-hoc theory that worked on both my bikes.
Probably nothing to do with performance cycling, more to
to do with probably simple efficient cycling. YMMV.

And of course varies if you have multiple handlebar positions.
Which I do on both bikes. However using it on my folder indicated
the front bars were aggressively too low for the "standard" grip position,
and FWIW it ameloirated hand numbness issues quite a bit.

rgds, sreten.

height is completely irrelevant. It's inside leg crotch to groundin bare feet that metters. Measure that in cm/mm.
From that work out a likely seat tube/saddle height (I've explained all this on other threads). Or consider a bike fit. Reach can be adjusted with varying extension length and making sure seat set back is correct.
All that said, unless someone of 5ft 3 inches is likely to be more suited to a small frame, 54cm sounds huge unless leg length is extreme for body total height. Some makers quote centre to centre sizing, others from bracket centre to top of top tube, so it can be a difference of 1-1.5cm. Which is why bike fitting is useful!
Pay attention to this

Beware of any business that sells bikes and relates frame size to person height. We are all different. Due to my ancestry (cheers Gran..) I am short legged for my body height, so although in theory a 52 should be OK, it's a 50 with longer extension to get the position OK I guess a small sloped frame would deliver a similar height, just never had one. Handlings excellent though, and small frames seem to be a bit stiffer sideways, as the years go by it helps to get as much power through to the back wheel as possible, so no complaints!

Hi.......If it's any help.............I am 5 foot 9 and ride a 54'' Triban 3. It fits like a glove (now) but I fitted a slightly shorter stem. My inside leg is slightly over 30'' but I found the reach with the standard stem too much.........but we are all different, proportionally, and manufacturers figures aren't always consistent between brands. I would guess a 54'' Triban would be rather on the large side for you..........but no real way to tell on paper alone. As others have pointed out; other makes may offer a smaller size and still retain the 700mm wheel size?

But not much else is easily available for £250. The decathlon website also has red one in 48cm which may work

I'm 5'3 and went for the 51cm. although something in between the 47cm and 51 would have been just perfect so it would be worth a try before buying, really.

That probably works well. Just bear in mind comments I made earlier about proportions, leg length/total height.
One other small but interesting matter, ladies are often in different proportions (no sniggering), in that leg length is a greater proportion of total height, so the issue of a shorter top tube/extension comes into play. Like I said, nothing beats a proper bike fit, although it might cost a bit (happily was free to this old has been, courtesy of an enlightened team), an investment for the rest of your riding life.

Ive got a 54 triban 3 & all height /reach parts as standard & its fine for me although I slightly prefered the 51 . It was the wheels that put me off . I am 5'6 with a 30" inside leg . I have also just bought an Eastway flat bar that is an xs /52 & the top tube stands higher than the Triban !, so you have to be careful . Good luck , & hope you get sorted . :-)
