So, 54cm Triban 3 – would it suit a 5ft3 person?

I’m use to riding big bikes I can’t put my feet down on from seated in the saddle, I've been lifting out of the saddle and setting my current bike (Dual suspension work-horse of a bike Team Saracen D-Tox, it's grueling after 30 miles) for years but with no cross-bar as strict as the triban. My inside leg is 29 inches barefoot.

I had planned closer to Spring to get down to a store and take a look, but quite frankly they're selling so cheap right now I'm worried they'll sell out and I've had my mind (heart) set on this for a while and been saving up!

Sounds a bit big to me. In saying that, I have no experience of the sizing of the Triban so maybe some of the others that have them will be able to let you know if they come up small. I am only a smidgin over 5' 3" myself and my two road bikes are 48 and 49cms.

I'm 5ft 3 and I find my 51cm bike on the large side, plenty of growing room for me though!

Thanks for the answers so far, unfortunately I have no growing room on me except the unfavourably for outwards.

I guess it is the reach that's the main issue. I really wanted to avoid 650 tyres, and I think I've been trying to push myself into a 54cm, when a 48cm is more ideal.

My zelos uses 700c and is 51cm?

In the Triban 3, everything below a 54cm is on 650 tyres. I didn't realise the Medium Zelos was 51cm though! That was my 2nd choice.

Felt in a 51cm? May still be big though

Are you a he or she?

A she. Unfortunately the Felt is out of my range, the Triban is currently at £249 and hard to argue with. I just don't think I'll be able to get to the store for a try out at that price I'm assuming it's a clear out.

Unfortunately, I think you'll be out of luck for a new bike for £249

tbh i love my zelos, it is actually decent quality. People look down on halfords bike but put it this way, 10kg bike. Tekro brakes, shimano tourney shifters etc.. It rides smooth and well. Infact If i could i'd only replace the rims, tyres and the fork (not necessary) the rims just as they aren't the best, and the fork is steel. Id only replace it due to weight as the steel one isn't too harsh on londons roads!

It sounds a bit big, fwiw I'm 5foot 9 an ride a 54cm kinesis. That said though I can't put flat feet on the ground when in the saddle, if thats what you mean. The important thing is when you slide forward off the saddle the saddle to do so you dont do yourself damage, if you do so the bike's too big for definite

I am 5'9 and a bit and I ride 54s. The tribans do apparently come up a little smaller but not that much

height is completely irrelevant. It's inside leg crotch to groundin bare feet that metters. Measure that in cm/mm.
From that work out a likely seat tube/saddle height (I've explained all this on other threads). Or consider a bike fit. Reach can be adjusted with varying extension length and making sure seat set back is correct.
All that said, unless someone of 5ft 3 inches is likely to be more suited to a small frame, 54cm sounds huge unless leg length is extreme for body total height. Some makers quote centre to centre sizing, others from bracket centre to top of top tube, so it can be a difference of 1-1.5cm. Which is why bike fitting is useful!
