Good advice up thread already. I will echo the bit about days 3 & 4, the first miles will hurt. I did Edinburgh to London a couple of years back and even though I was very prepared by backside really hurt on days 3,4 & 5 for the first 10 miles. Once you're warmed up though it will be fine.

I would also add to start eating and refuelling immediately when getting off the bike. It is hard to stuff enough in but I virtually had two evening meals each night which I think helped.

I've been there too, your mind is just racing but the body is wrecked.
I thought that was normal; are you saying it isn't?

Good luck @Heisenberg71 ; I can't offer any constructive advice or help simply because what you are doing is off my scale. WAY off it!

So I made it....

What an absolute blast of an adventure. From Dartford to Grangemouth in just four days, riding 549 miles and climbing over 25,000ft on route. I have saddle sores, my right knee is wrecked, my left foot unbearable, tight shoulders and no grip in my right hand.

We saw some fantastic places, enjoyed more sunshine than rain and I laughed, I honestly cried, I scared myself senseless on descents and lived with the fast group for first two days. I hit my lowest point yesterday coming out of Edinburgh with 14 miles go. No power left within me. However we pulled through and I lead a chain gang into the finish averaging 22mph four last four miles.

What an adventure. If you get chance to do something similar and doubt you can do it then sign up immediately and train. You can do it, and will love it.

All of the top tips above are bang on! Thanks guys.

Allez!

Well done, H71 - great effort. :notworthy:

That's given me the motivation to tackle my 220 miles at midnight Friday/Saturday. Except that I haven't trained too much!
