50 mile club I AM IN!!!

Having been busy (and lazy) for the last few months, I haven't ridden more than 10miles in any single ride for a while. Got out and did over 50 today and I can sympathize with the stiffness.
Very well done, but keep doing it as the legs and body get used to it pretty quickly ime, but also stop being used to it if you don't keep them busy regularly :-)

Fair play. 50 miles is a great achievement. I am a newbie, after 10 years of not cycling, but looking to push myself each time I go out. Hoping to get a 50 miler in before Winter comes, but doubt that will happen this year.

Great work, just getting back into cycling and 50 miles seems a long way off yet. Will hopefully be posting a thread like this myself in the future

Thanks a lot everyone, I have been at work all day today (chef) so I didn't get out on the bike but will see what I can do tomorrow. I have been fine all day today I did expect to be very stiff but I have been fine.

Looking forward to next Sunday as me and my friend are looking to bash the 75miler out and hit 84 but will see how we go.

I said that to myself for a while. You know what - just go do it. Plan a 50 route and just do it. Then it will be behind you and you can move on.

Fair point. Its a time thing for me presently, but I am going to plan something once I get some bib shorts/tights and jersey sorted. My bum bones won't handle much more than the 23 miles that I did last time.

Take the day off , give yourself all day to do it, - I did a 60miler the other day , took 9hours, 61/2 cycling the rest resting.
(hour for lunch , half hour near the end for a victory pint.)
Padded shorts a deffinate must, but you probably do the 23miler in one go, take all day, lots of breaks, have a great day.
trick I picked up, when going down hills sit on just one cheek, varie the weight position. - I,m not racing after all.

So today I joined the 50 mile club by accident.
Intended to ride to my work then nip to Redcar before going home and just continued riding for a bit. I did have to stop a few times as someone I was with was having bike issues but overall it was pretty fun.
I was very stiff afterwards as I have never rode above 25 miles before and tbh I have rode very little recently due to problems my end.

I know its slow but still for a fat lad who hasn't rode much lately I am very very happy.

Not slow at all in my book!!

Sounds like a plan.

I did indeed do the 23 mile ride in one go, with 10 mins stop to take in the view half way, before the reverse route.

Odd but I feel with cycling I need to do my miles in one go . Any other form of exercise I take a rest or do reps . Ive nothing to prove to anyone and im to old for that proving stuff anyway . I guess its just once I get going I love it so "lets see what I can do today" kicks in ?

Well done. I'm only on 30 and 40 milers at the moment, but then I've only been cycling a couple of months.

I plan to get to 50 by the end of the year then hope for a 100 miler this time next year. Slowly and surely is the best way to progress.
