Nice image, thank you for sharing that. WRT transport accidents, 679+317+121 does not equal 1815 (I am assuming that the ends are subsets of the nodes to which thay are attached) so the cyclists are in the remaining however-many-it-is (my mental arithmatic doesn't run to that and I can't be bothered to start up a calculator).
that would be it. If memory serves it's a little over 100

More people die from eating re-heated rice per year than die in motorbike accidents. I will wear a helmet next time the Mrs puts rice in the microwave.

So swine flu didn't kill quite as many as was expected then.
My understanding is there was no actual outbreak of swine 'flu in the UK. Basically, there were clusters around people that brought it from overseas, but they did not spread to other groups. So by good luck or because the infection management was handled correctly, swine 'flu did not do what it was feared it might do.

I would say still not enough.

That might seem sadistic but just think about it: If more people are being born than are dying, something is going wrong. We have passed the 7 billion mark recently and it wont be long until we are at 8bn. 1/3 of that is in China alone.
China has realised its problem and put laws in place to control the birth rates (only one child per couple). Do we really want to end up like China?

I am not saying that we should have more people dying. But it only comes down to two possibilities. Control death rates, or control birth rates?
I think people of now need to make this decision and stop getting concerned over having more children. Its not good for anyone.

It hasn't, only 35% of the population is subject to it (only urban families). China also has a large gender imbalance which in part is due to it.

Agree. I was going to make the point about how much money was wasted on stockpiled vaccines, but thinking about it the Goverment were damned if they did and damned if they didn't.

Only 2 deaths from toilet seat incidents?

It would be informative if they could confirm how many of those who died in each category were a) over 70 and b) over 80... ie how many people died of 'natural causes' as a result of illness. It might make the totals seem less scary!
And in the same period 723,916 births (see Link to show it is from the same data as above) So that's an extra 240,000 of us for England & Wales alone - the human race continues at a pace

But with annual global extinction of species estimated link to be around 140,000 per annum, are we actually winning
it's a lot better than that - you're forgetting immigration. In no time at all we'll be up to 70 million. Which would be a thoroughly good thing!

Interestingly, 3 pedestrians were killed in collisions with cyclists. It does not say how many cyclists were killed by dozy pedestrians stepping onto the road without looking.

Only 44 women died in childbirth, only one of Eclampsia. Lady Sybil from Downton Abbey would have survived today hopefully.

though for a more accurate analysis, need to look at net migration, emigration will affect the numbers somewhat....
