I got my first brand new bike and started to ride it 4 weeks ago today.

In the last four weeks I have managed to do just over 330 miles getting gradually faster, ticking off first 10 then 20 then 30 milers.

I have also managed to somewhere along the line loose just over 7kg ( which is just over a stone )
getting me under 100kg for the first time in 10 years.

I have personally gained a great deal of motivation from reading the stories of others and realised that it was just as hard/bad for them as I was feeling, if you are new and reading this I didn't believe I would ever write anything like this.
I have found something I really love doing and hope that in a couple of years I can read this again and laugh about how I thought 30 miles was a big deal

Dave, you and I share quite a few similarities. I got my new bike on 13th September. It's taken me an extra couple of weeks to reach the 300 mile mark, but I'm pretty happy with that. You're a couple of weeks ahead on the weight loss too - I've lost about 11lb so not quite a stone yet. Apparently, I weigh 99.68kg, so am also under the 100kg for the first time in a good few years. Have you noticed how the climbs get easier the lighter you get?

I haven't got near 30 miles yet though - I've done 27 in a day, but that's with good breaks in between trips. I think you must have had a starting fitness level a good deal higher than mine!

You've also been a great source of motivation as a target to chase. I like to think that you are in some way conscious of me slogging away behind you on my big fat hybrid, and that I in turn motivate you to stay ahead. Don't stop. Don't even slow down. I'm waiting.

Here's to many more miles!
MBE

I forgot to add - 4 weeks? Cracking progress fella! ;)

Most Tigers fans have a good side. Its just that you are jealous of our 43 years at the top! After all, we are a family club (Freddie, Alex, Henry, Manu, Andy, hold on, where's the next one?)
Can you be offside on a bike? Want you to feel at home ;)

This kind of thread just totally annoys me,,,,,,,, through shear jealousy, I'm desperate to put the miles in and just can't get the time. Seriously though, well done, keep it up

I think it's important (I found it so anyway) not to worry too much if someone else is appearing to do better than you. Everyone's body is different and takes different amounts of time to manifest adaptations provoked by training. The best thing you can do is to measure your own progress.

Then, when you can see an improvement in distance, recover and/or speed you can be really chuffed that you have got somewhere

This thread is great  everyone's doing amazingly well :bicycle:

I think you have it spot on there Matt.
I look at everyone progress and think how well they have done, I assume that everyone has found it hard at some times and to see anyone go from practically nothing to where they are now I am impressed and knowing that you all can make the effort, helps me find the motivation to push myself.
