Or pick your segment carefully. I've held a segment for nearly 3 years now. The segment is 230 miles long though.

I might set one up as my commute with anyone trying to beat it has to be on a bike with panniers

I have one for my commute - one each way that chops off the first 5 miles or so which gives me chance to warm up and is not that obvious it is a commute as such!
