I seem to do the first 3/4 miles very leisurely indeed, then get up to a rhythm for the next ten miles or so, after that I feel like I could go on for ever, this usually lasts 10-20 miles and then the rest is either a total hassle or a blissed-out cruise, depending on how well I've managed my food intake and whether I went out on the razz the night before

I'm hardly what you'd call fast in any circumstance, anyway.

So happy ive just found this as i was starting to think im weird!!
First 4 miles of my ride is all up hill (not massive hills just steadly up, flat, up, flat etc..) my 4th mile is always the one with turtle on endo (slowest) these 4 miles seem to kill me, but after that i feel much better.
I changed my regular 16 mile (well 4 times in last week) after 9 miles so i end up going over the tops from Cross Hills to Carlton, into Skipton and back home.
The hill up to Carlton is a fairly steep one but compaired to the lesser hills (first 1-4 miles in) i flew up it!! and i felt much stronger in the legs on the run home.
24 hilly miles done in 1hour 40 and i felt i could of done more.
Think im going to do this route an other 2 or 3 times before next week and maybe try an other route, maybe 30-35?.
The worst (or best thing depending on how you view it) about living in a valley is within 2/3 miles you must climb some hills to get anywhere!!!:bicycle:

I take the first few miles quite slowly, then on 5 miles I hit a long hill which takes a bit of effort in a low gear and after that I'm warmed up for the next 35-45 miles!
