A home made shim doesn't have to go the full circumference of the clamp to work.

Went to bike shop and he didn't have any 29.8mm so I have fitted a 30mm. I seem to have got away with possibly because my seatpost is quite a rough matte and also as my frame is steel so possible more flex available on it. I've only ridden it the once to work today but it was fairly heavily loaded (laptop, biscuits etc). Will shim it if it moves at all
