Okay my plan to use Marathon + tyres has failed. They are just too wide to fit on my rims. Although the wider 35mm studded Winters fit fine

So I am after other suggestions?? Must have good p protection and 28mm wide

Are you sure you're not just having trouble fitting them?
Thy are notoriously difficult 1st time round.

Difficult!!! You mean absolute f###### B####### to fit

The bead is too wide. I did managed once to seat them without the tube. The tyre just want to pop off both sides of the rim every time.

 Yep, they are a challenge.
There's a vid on line where you cable tie the tyre on in a couple of places to make it much easier, once they.ve been on a while they do soften up a bit and go on better next time

They will fit better once the tube is in there with a bit of air pressure. You aren't wrong about the difficulty though!

They're going back to Evans!!! I've fitted these before on other wheels with no issues like this. Rather run the risk of a P with a tyre that I can at least change easily.

just put my new conti 4 seasons on today. wow what a great tyre. amazingly the 28 is only just over 25mm wide (@90psi), so not sure how theyre sizing them! ive read in cycling plus they over size them as the 25mm is only about 23.5mm.

wiggle have them on offer as well with tubes at the moment @ c.£70 which is a bargain.

+1. Durano + also available in 28mm, and they're as tough as old boots too.

ahem they aint that hard ^_^ got a deflation tonight fortunately not far from the house and it was a small thorn right through the tyre and the blue liner inbetween! In fairness I do take them over some rough ground! Oh and I ride 23mm size which may or may not make a difference.

My experiences have been rather more positive. But results obviously vary!
