Hi guys,

The general trend on the roads at the minute seems to be upgrading from 23c to 25c

Rolling resistance negligible between the two and the extra rubber on the 25c is better suited to our rough roads.

Has anyone here done this upgrade?

Regretted it?
Wished they had done it sooner?
Not noticed any difference?

Need new tyres and can't decide what width to get.

Thanks

Chris

I went from 23mm Conti GP's to 25mm GP2's and i definitely think its a less harsh ride and (probably psychologically) feel more confident going into corners etc with them.

I switch between 23 & 25 regularly - the difference is marginal, but it is there. So, assuming you have the clearance, you might as well go for 25.

The benefit for myself is I can run 25s at 100 psi , on 23s I needed 110-120 psi on the rear because of my weight , does not sound much but at 20 psi difference the ride is a lot more comfortable especially the further you ride .

Indeed. I have both 23mm and 25mm in the same tyre on different bikes. The width of the tyre isn't noticeable to me

Thanks for the comments guys,

Think that's my mind made up 25c it is, but many thanks on the comment regarding clearance, i can't see it being an issue but i will double check.

thanks

As I mentioned on a similar thread, if your riding 25mm and you have a spoke go, slight buckle etc and you do not have much clearance between your chain stays then its ride over, unless your lucky and can just straighten the wheel. I was using 25mm on my Madone, the clearance was minimal and despite finding the 25's more pleasant to ride and just as fast as 23's, I decided it was a matter of time before something happened with my run of back wheels breaking so went back to 23's but I still run 25's on my cross bike. I even had a stone jam in my front fork because of lack of clearance and lock my wheel up, luckily at a slow speed uphill.

So the moral is, ensure you have plenty of clearance in case of a mishap

My new Cannondale Synapse comes with 28s as stock. To be honest, I've noticed very little difference from the 25s I normally run.
