Itzulia Basque Country starts today with a 18k ITT.

Bit of a thin field compared to last year. Maybe the events of last year have something to do with it. Or maybe last year was an unusual bumper year for talent (and horrible year for luck)

And no real Eibar Queen stage this year to compensate, as the finale has been made significantly easier.
I have a feeling that Thursday will be the most decisive road stage, although Wednesday and Friday offer attacking options too.

Surprised by the small time gap between the top 10.
Good news as far as the road stages are concerned. I think the next few days will be getting some excellent weather too.
Surprised McNulty was 34 seconds down on Schachmann...😲 Also Tullet a minute back and Kuss 1.5 minutes.

Kuss has pretty much said that he's here for the guts rather than the glory post Vuelta triumph. McNulty, yes that's a shocker for him.
What's really surprised me is the team Ineos have put out for this one. It's as if they've sorted their team by UCI ranking and taken the bottom 7.

With no clear GC leader for Ineos it's a great TT from Micheal Leonard who finished 10th, sixteen seconds down on Max and takes the young rider classification.Nice to see what he can do the rest of the week with no pressure.
Great chance for Ewan to take today's stage ?

Well there aren't any mountain top finishes, so it's not much good for the GC guys, and Fraile is retiring this season so nice to give him the leader's number for a race on home turf. Other than that, it's mainly the Ardennes squad + Ewan I think

Bet some of the GC riders were gutted after seeing that Basketball stadium start yesterday...once in a lifetime event 🙄
