Matthew Brennan is today's "making me feel old"

I was in the middle of my A-Levels when he was born. Which, granted, will make me your very own "making you feel old" for today

Blimey, I'd just 'celebrated' my 50th birthday.
I can remember it as if it was only yesterday.... the problem is that I can't remember what I did yesterday...

I'm not sure if Cav ever won from a breakaway?
Unless you count that crosswind split in the Tour?

Cav won the 13th stage of the 2013 Tour from a 14 man breakaway.
He only had to deal with a chap called Peter Sagan, in the sprint.
He also won the 2022 UK championship from a 14 man final selection, having been in several earlier breakaways.

Yes, thanks, that's the one I was thinking of.

For most of us now, that’s a very big if. I only know of a handful of cycling fans that bit that particular, 30 quid bullet. (Yes I know some old Discovery customers couldn’t resist the few months half price offer)
I have to admit it was a bitter pill to swallow, what made it slightly more palatable was my sky contract coming to an end. So it was out with sky sports which was mainly for the football and in with TNTSports which gives me enough football and keeps all the cycling.

One of my favourite ever stages. There was so much going on all over the race. Echelons everywhere. Bertie and his boys on the front trying to put time into Froome. Cav and friends along for the stage win. Ineos chasing. Valverde off the back trying to salvage his tour. Another group with Kittel still trying to be up there if it all came back together.

OPQS as a team got the most aggressive rider award. That's a useful trivia question. When did Cav ride with a red number?

(I occasionally re-watch it. I don't have a super duper memory)

Talking of echelons, there’s quite a large split in the peloton. Not sure if wind was involved or just down to the Kemmelberg.
Anyhow, there’s 110kms of pan flat parcour left in Bredene Koksijde.

Was a really good finish, the break was caught by a much reduced peloton with a few hundred metres to go but they could only catch the back by time Theuns opened a long sprint to hold on for the win.

Ted Theuns takes a fantastic sprint with from the breakaway, despite the desperate chase, which saw the peloton finally bridge inside the final 500 metres.

Reading Theuns' interview makes you appreciate how tough it is being a cyclist who wins rarely, works hard for others with little or no credit often.
He was quite emotional about how much it meant to him, his girlfriend and to his son's view of his Dad.
