Itching to get back on my bike's
Location
Northamptonshire
So i got my roadbike back in August 2014, 18 months ago. I did very little winter miles last year being a newbie, just didn't have the will or the stamina to get out much. This year I'm up to 1100 miles since jan 1 on road and turbo trying to get a good solid winter behind me heading into the spring. Ok it's not epic milage by audax or "serious cyclists" standards but going from zilch last winter to 1100 for me is a big deal. How are you getting on?

Well done you.

I set myself a year target of 4k so 333 miles per month average, so far after 2 months about 50 down which I can live with

1,060 miles all done outside (what is this turbo thing that people mention and why is it anything to do with cycling?). A massive improvement on 2014 and 2015 when I was around 400 miles at this point. My average speed is up a touch too.
Nice milage. Ha, turbo for me specific training for TT's and let's me ride when I'm looking after the kids or only have a spare hour or so. I just bring the whole lot inside the house from the garage if my wife is still at work, otherwise I wouldn't be able to train. Whether it's doing me any good or not - we'll see later on this year! But from virtually no miles last winter to "a fair bit" this winter can't be bad (I hope).

Thanks! I live at about 1300 ft and work at sea level, so don't have a lot of choice. I let it put me off commuting for years, but built up slowly and now do it most days without even thinking about it. Three years ago I'd never have thought I'd be doing what I do now, in fact it's by far the best bit of my day ^_^

@mynydd

I don't do as many miles as you (about 2400 last year with 164000' climbing) and average a tad under 70'/mile of ascent across the year. I'm trying to build up to some of the longer climbs in the Lake district but tbh I seem to get no nearer to achieving them as each year goes by. I'm not just talking about the well known 'biggies' but there are loads of other ascents that go on and on that seem way too daunting for me to even have a stab at. One day.....:smile:

So far this year 445m all commuting, not been out on the MTB at all which if i had the choice it would be the other way round, nothing duller than tarmac!

Not good

One of my goals this year was to ride through winter and to be fair I have ridden in Dec and Jan, but then I had three weeks off the bike in Feb due to a minor op and last weekend was the first weekend after the all clear and the weather was awful so didn't get out.

I also purchased a new carbon road bike over a week ago now and have yet to ride it (outside of my cul de sac)!

My garage is now overstuffed with 2 road bikes, 1 MTB and 3 kids bikes, a windsurfer, a power cage with bench and now a new trailer tent so I can't even get on the turbo now either until I have a sort out of all my cr*p.

If anyone wants to buy a windsurfer or a power cage, bench and Oly weights PM me so I can get back on the turbo.
