Just been out on another hilly club ride, and agreed to try a 2 up time trial next year with one of the other guys. We are fairly similar paced, both have little / zero experience of these things, but fancied a go. It's a 25 mile circuit, and the club have a 25 mile route closer to home that we can practice on. Any tips and suggestions as to how to ride it? Time on the front for each rider etcs We expect to finish very much near last place.

Hopefully will have lost some more weight by then, and it will give me more motivation to get ready for the etape.

I have only done one of these and, like yourself, I was teamed with a guy of similar ability.

We didn't have set times/distances at the front. Instead we just let the tail rider take the front when he felt he could up the pace. This let both of us ride to our strengths and worked very well. We got a better time and placing than we had ever achieved individually on the same course against the same opposition. We were both happy with the result.

Just make sure the tail rider isn't dropped and shout instructions to each other when required - if you can!!

I'm useless at rhythm (is that the correct term) and a constant chain gang tires me out quickly, where as a longer stint on the front doesn't, no doubt the former is more efficient, if you can do it but if you cant its inefficient. The two of you will find through practice what is efficient for you.

I love doing the 2 up with my club. It works in this way: The person with the slowest time on the course goes with the fastest person on the course. It makes the whole event go quicker and you get a much faster time in the end. The slowest rider is the time which counts. At the end of the route, the faster one normally sling shots the slower one.
I always ended up crossing the finish line reaching 30 on the 9 mile course we do for the 2 up.

It is always fun so give it a go and enjoy it.

I can't see your club system optimising any teams time, unless all the club times are very similar. In most fields the slowest person wouldn't even be able to hold the wheel of the fastest person if that person goes full belt.

I do see that it would be fun though.

We have an evening where we do two 10 mile loops pretty sharpish, I guess we will use these to work out a system, then try a few 25's before March,
