I have 2 identical flashing red lights on the back. They are half watt LED ones so pretty bright, they never seem to flash at the same time and look pretty good to me but a few people have said to me you shouldnt use two the same on the back.

Is there any science to this or is it an old wives tale?

Personally I will have 1 flashing and 1 steady, also 1/2 watt ones, just gives a different emphasis I suppose.
If it's a gloomy day but not actually 'dark' I might just have 1 on flash.

Must say...I'm one flashing quick, one flashing slow, one steady bright intensity, one steady low intensity at the mo....maybe a bit over cautious and lit up like a Christmas tree but hey!!!

Christmas round your house must be a pretty sombre affair...;)
Haha! They're really bright though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phaart lights at planetx are very good for the money. The dual 0.5W is excellent, as bright as a car rear fog light. Just need some vaseline on the seals to ensure they dont leak.

Going to order two 0.5 Watt Phaart lights, what is the mounting bracket like?

I used to use 2 lights on my seat post – one static and one flashing as recommended here. Since buying my XML T6 front lights that each came with a "free" 5-LED rear light, I've been using both of these on the loops high up on my backpack, and have them set to a flashing mode. I've still got my original seat post lights (a half watt Smart light, and an older Bikehut LED), and use the Smart on flashing mode, but have the other light on static and angled down – because my frame is white it reflects this light backwards, and the effect is similar to having strip lights on the rear stays
