This thread raises perhaps a more contentious question, while I have stated that I have 4 bikes which is factual, I would not been seen out in the dark on 2 of them because even little children would point and laugh so how many bike do we all truly have?

And being an honest bunch we will of course all tell the truth

I have:
1 Giant FCR, summer hack. Fitted up for light touring - rack, mudguards. Skinny wheels, derailleur.
1 no-name winter hack. Hub gears, hub brakes, rack, mudguards, dynamo lights, wide Big Apple tyres.
1 Dawes Galaxy, currently in bits, frame awaiting powder coating. If I had to settle on one bike for everything, that might well be it. Adapted slightly, with straight bars not drops, but also with rack, 'guards, dynamo etc...
1 Trice Trike. Currently still in several bits after bringing up from Leicester in the car after my summer holiday, and stored at a lock up, so less used than it should be.

And that is it, honest.

Most of my cycling is commuting, so my bikes don't get used as much as they should be. I have:

Dahon Impulse folder, used for meetings in town
No-name commuter hack, pannier rack, mudguards, the lot
Fixie, built by NickM of this parish
Giant peloton road bike - classic
Winter training road bike, based on an SJSC Cro-Mo frame (officially my wife's bike)
Giant 4600 (?) mountain bike, in bits awaiting rebuild to single speed, no reason, just for kicks
And my wife has a Salcano hack with mudguards and pannier.

I'm on the lookout for a decent hybrid-type thing that I can safely put a child-seat onto, as none of the above are suitable. So we'll only have 8 in the house.

Hmm I can think that 4 or 5 may be needed - three only for me, Best bike, training bike (both get used in Winter - best bike in dry usually) then my daily transport (slick MTB). Hoping to get sorted with a fixed road bike for commuting, so MTB can be the off road vehicle again).

So... Summer bike, winter bike, daily bike/fixed, and an MTB - so 4 needed......., or is that 5,6,....etc.....

Despite only taking up cycling in the past year I've just bought a second bike that is probably termed my summer bike..... I like this forum - you lot make me feel less wasteful about buying a second one .

Now if only I had space for two bikes in my house things would be perfect.

A Dawes Horizon (which I posted about here) just got it back today after getting a new handlebar stem fitted, and having ridden it home, I think I'm going to like it now that it's a better fit. I can't wait until next summer when hopefully I'll be a bit fitter and can get the chance to go on some longer rides on it!

Cool - I had thought about a Horizon too but can't afford it right now. Have seen them new on eBay for £350 in my size which is pretty good!

Barnet,
You can never have enough bikes. I have a Dawes Galaxy which doubles up as a winter, all round load lugger, an audax bike for all round, all weather long distance bike. Then comes my Condor Italia summer/good weather road bike.
