I got a full size bike without taking the wheels off, in my Fiat Panda. Folded the back seat down, folded the front passenger seat all the way back. All mirrors visible, all controls reachable without any interferance from the bike. Bit of a Krypton Factor job getting it in (bike went in backwards) but it can be done. Also took my mountain bike in the car when it was serviced (front wheel removed, back seat down), and pedalled the 8 miles home. Good luck :-)

Had to get a Trek 7.5 home from lbs today in my MG TF - I'd give anything (except lose the canvas hood) for a bigger hatchback or large boot.

Fiesta, two touring bikes. Front wheels off and mudguards undone at the quick release bit. Its a bit of faffing about but it is better on a long drive
Closer to home, and if we intend to be with the car its a lot less bother to put the roof rack on.

Golf - no probs

Well, obviously, that's just a bag or two of sticks. He wants to know about bikes...

I was going to say, cardboard is a good padding material, big flattened boxes are flexible enough to bend around the shapes of the bikes, but stiff enough to prevent bits like pedals interlocking and catching on cables etc.

Why take two bikes.
I took mine down as they tell you to do so and so did the other guy who i got paired up with so we used his bike to do the lesson as we both had road bikes all parts were of the same ilke.

Unless you have totaly different types of bikes taking one should be enough.

Strange enough even though i have had bikes for years i learned a few good tips so it is well worth going on

In the end there was no need to take the bikes anyway!

But having said that I found it a very useful 2 hours or so, covered the basics of puncture repair, adjusting brakes & gears, cleaning and checking chain wear - great for me as a total numpty when it comes to maintenance, so would recommend it for beginners.
