Bonked today for the first time and I hope I never go thru it again, really unnerving. I hadn't eaten since my nightshift last night. Never again!! I have read enough on here to know what to do to sort it but nevertheless a scary experience.

If you could still ride then you did not bonk. You were just running on empty and perhaps pretty close. I have seen someone suffer the bonk on a ride and it's not nice to see. If you really did bonk then there is no way you could continue to ride your bike.

Oh ok, looks like I caught it in time then, thank god for sweet coffee and cake then lol, thanks for keeping me right. And what would cause the pins an needles in my toes?
I get pins and needles in my toes. I just get off the bike and stamp my feet about for a few mins. Sometimes I have a wee sit down (and a flapjack while I'm there) and take my shoes off and do some toe wiggling. It's a cycling thing.

I have had it when I first started riding... It's the target effect in your eyes, I feel like I am looking at a flashing target as it comes on.

I've not had it for years though. Drink lots, even just water. Fitness helps a lot also, so you need more the less fit you are.

If you are still riding you are running on fumes as they say...

My son was diagnosed Type 1 a year ago.

His Hypo is the same thing for a diabetic., and I know how it feels having had the Bonk a few times over the years. He can feel going low, but it can be very fast and can knock them out as their pancreas isn't working.

In you or I we start to run low and feel rough. Glucose will get you up, but you need carbs if riding further.

Although 'the bonk' feels like a physical thing it is actually your brain that is malfunctioning. Your brain needs a lot of oxygen to function and any shortage will have you feeling unwell and your brain sending strange messages so is best avoided. Oxygen is carried in the blood and is carried on the back of glucose that your body makes from the food you eat, if you run low then it figures that you need glucose in it's purest form as quick as you can.
