Hi all

Have a problem in that when r/d cable is adjusted to get perfect lowest gear selection, cannot get into highest gear or vice versa.

Have changed cable but made no difference. Outer cable looks OK, no kinks.,

Is it time to replace the r/d?

It sounds like the mech itself is sticky or needs the high or low screws tweaking a little.

Will it go into all the gears if you encourage it a little directly with your hand, rather than just use the gear lever? If so, sticky cable, try replacing the outer.

If not, perhaps it just needs a good clean and lube and those limit screws adjusting slightly.

Oh, and check that the upper pivot (co-axial with the bolt that holds the derailleur into the frame) pivots freely and the spring there is doing its job.

Low screw setting is where I would start, having only fited a 05 RD i can't comment on distance/conditions, but an Acera did nearly 10,000 miles in about 15 months before the pivots wore out, so might be a place to look for wear.
