Not exactly a mechanical problem but just wondering about this - I recently changed from an old Suntour RD, 7speed cassette set up to Shimano 105 long cage RD & 10 Speed cassette. Im not sure exactly what speed my old one was on the big cog, but size wise it's definitely smaller/the same size as my new 28T 105, yet the new 105 feels sort of harder to pedal and I'm not sure why - is it something to do with the change to more modern stuff? It's a 53 on the front and used to spin really well but now I don't really know if I could climb on this set up (also haven't cycled in a month, may be a contributing factor

The age of the sprockets don't matter, if they are the same size they will feel exactly the same. The answer is the bit I've highlighted in bold.
